What is Vulnerability?

A vulnerability is any weakness that could be exploited by a threat actor to perform unauthorized actions — accessing data, executing code, denying service, or escalating privileges. Vulnerabilities can exist in software (buffer overflows, injection flaws), configurations (default passwords, open ports), processes (lack of patch management), or even people (susceptibility to phishing). Vulnerability management is the systematic process of identifying, evaluating, prioritizing, and remediating vulnerabilities to reduce risk.
